Volunteering Opportunity of the Week (10 March) - Criminal Justice System
There are a huge variety of volunteer opportunities in the Criminal Justice System, and just as many motivations for taking on the roles.
Kent Police volunteers work as Special Constables, help with administrative tasks, or run Neighbourhood Watch schemes. Kent Probation volunteers help people find accommodation and work, and assist with numeracy and literacy needs. Decisions in Magistrates courts are made by Justices of the Peace, volunteers who have been given extensive training. Volunteers mentor young offenders, act as responsible adults who support young people when being interviewed by the police, or work as youth court magistrates. Volunteers visit police stations, prisons and immigration removal centres to ensure people in custody are being treated with decency and humanity. Volunteers are also vital in supporting victims of crime and witnesses who are expected to give evidence in court.
